Margie Scalley Vaught, CPC, CPC-H, CCS-P, ACS-EM, ACS-OR, has more than 30 years of experience in the health care arena, including more than 20 years in orthopedic coding, billing and reimbursement. Margie frequently performs internal audits, provides education and training to physicians and office staff, and she helps clinics establish billing and compliance manuals. She is an advisor on orthopedic coding to the Board of Medical Specialty Coding, and she helped to develop the Advanced Orthopedic Coding credentialing exam. Margie has contributed many articles to the AAOS Bulletin, and she serves as consulting editor to both Medical Practice Coding Pro and the Orthopedic Coder’s Pink Sheet.

Jennifer L. Searfoss, Esq., CMPE Jennifer L. Searfoss, Esq., CMPE

Jennifer is the CEO of SCG Health and is focused on revenue cycle management and strategic planning in this post-health reform world. Jennifer was the vice president of external provider relations for UnitedHealthcare, a Minnesota-based health insurance company. From 2007 to April 2011, she established and led the provider communications and advocacy unit. Before that, Jennifer served as the external relations liaison for the Washington, D.C.-based government affairs department of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA). Jennifer has had the pleasure of teaching health care law, international diplomacy and women and politics at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and health care policy at George Washington University.

Ms. Holmes is a Healthcare Management Consultant and Revenue Cycle Expert with over 25 years’ experience in health care. Using process engineering, advanced analytics, and in-depth knowledge of the industry, she helps healthcare organizations reach peak performance, and adapt to technological and regulatory changes. She is committed to helping practices navigate the ever-changing landscape of Healthcare Reform, and guiding providers to improved quality, decreased costs and higher profits. As a Certified Coder and Compliance Officer, and former auditor with the Department of Health and Hospitals, she also brings a unique perspective to compliance, auditing, billing, coding and contracting. Her areas of expertise include revenue cycle management, PM & EMR system implementation, billing office outsourcing, business line development, process engineering, practice acquisitions, chart audits and coding, appeals, audit defense, credentialing, contracting, and government incentives.

Jean Acevedo, LHRM, CPC, CHC, CENTC, has 30 years of health care experience. She has a particular expertise in chart audits, compliance and education relative to physician documentation and coding and hospice. Jean has also been an expert witness in civil litigation and an investigative consultant for the Justice Department in federal fraud cases.
She is a workshop presenter for the American Academy of Professional Coders and co-author of the Academy’s Compliance Toolkit, an instructor at Florida Atlantic University and a member of several Coding Institute Editorial Advisory Boards. Jean has been a Participant in CMS’ Medicare Provider Feedback Group, CMS Division of Provider Information Planning and Development since 2007 and is a member of the Jurisdiction 9 MAC’s Provider Outreach and Education Advisory Group.
She is a frequently sought after speaker as she possesses the unique perspective of avoiding risk and liability while optimizing reimbursement in the highly regulated health care industry. Additionally, Jean has been ICD-10 trained and will serve as one of ACI’s ICD-10 instructors.

Jim has extensive cardiovascular billing experience and provides in-depth consulting, auditing and training services to cardiologists nationwide. He is the Chairman of the Board for the American Academy of Professional Coders cardiology specialty coding credential: certified cardiology coder (CCC).

Susan West, RHIT

Susan West, RHIT, possesses more than 35 years of experience with hospital and physician billing. In 1999, she chose to work exclusively in anesthesia and pain management coding and reimbursement when she began to work for Auditing for Compliance and Education. Susan has assisted many practices in understanding coding concepts and applying the numerous rules and regulations to coding compliance. Susan is an AHIMA-approved ICD-10-CM trainer and developed ACE’s anesthesia ICD-10-CM online training education for coding staff and providers.
