Your Expert Presenter:

Mildred L. Johnson, J.D., CPC is the Institutional Compliance Officer at Texas Tech University  Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas.  She is responsible for developing and maintaining the institutional compliance program and has supervisory oversight of the Billing Compliance Program and HIPAA Privacy.  Ms. Johnson is also an affiliate faculty member of Clarkson College in Omaha, Nebraska, where she teaches “Compliance Issues”, an on-line undergraduate course of the Health Information Management degree program.  Millie has over 10 years of health care billing compliance experience and has been an active member of the Health Care Compliance Association and is currently a member of the Compliance Advisory Board of the Board of Medical Specialty Coding.

Pam Benet-Rowell, RHIA, CPC, CHCO, CCP-P
Pam is a graduate of East Carolina University.  She started her career as a Coding Analyst at Charlotte Memorial Hospital in the early 80’s.  Subsequently she moved to South Carolina as the Director of Medical Records for a small rural hospital.  A couple of years later, she moved to the North Carolina coast to assume the role as Director of Medical Records for New Hanover Regional Medical Center.  In the early 90’s, Pam returned to the Charlotte area where she took a position with Deloitte Consulting.  She worked for Deloitte for approximately 10 years performing a variety of jobs:  Medicare Compliance Reviews, Operational Improvement Assessments, Coding Reviews, Charge Master Reviews, etc.  She grew tired of the travel and in November 2001 came to Carolinas HealthCare System where she is now one of two Directors responsible for the HIPAA Privacy effort.  Pam and her fellow Director are responsible for the implementation and on-going compliance review of 11 health care facilities and 92 physician sites.  They are currently in the process of identifying deficiencies and formulating corrective action to ensure acceptable compliance with federal and state regulations.
